□ Name: Rumpelstiltskin/Mr. Gold
□ Series: Once Upon a Time
□ Canon point:
□ History: wiki link
□ Personality: Mr. Gold and Rumpelstiltskin are like two different sides of the same coin in how they carry and present themselves, but they are very much the same at their core. He is a coward and has been his entire life. He has run and hid, he has left people walk over him because he has never found the courage to stand up to them.

The power he got with the Dark One's curse was gained through underhanded means, with fire and in the dead of night while his victims were resting. He killed the Dark One to gain his power, to be able to save the most important person in his life, his son, but it's often said that power corrupts. It's definitely true in Gold's case.

Once a meek man who let everyone walk over him, who had no friends and was basically the joke of the town, Rumpelstiltskin finally got a taste of the power he'd never had before in his life. The corruption wasn't overnight. It was gradual, but it eventually changed him into a beast. A demon.

One thing Rumpelstiltskin also takes very seriously is protecting what he considers his. His son, the dagger with his name on it, and the chipped teacup he still has from Belle. He will go to any lengths to protect these things, even if it involves hurting or even killing others.

That's not to say that Rumpelstiltskin is an evil man. He's not quite evil. He doesn't take delight in hurting others just to hurt others. He will do it to protect what he cares about, if someone pushes him to it, or to get vengeance for those who wronged him.

One thing Rumpelstiltskin is not is someone who breaks deals. He has said that he's broken one deal in his life (not that he'll talk to anyone about it), but he has kept all the rest. Magic and deals come at a price though and those bargaining with him might pay something higher than what they were initially expecting. It's not his fault and he gives them a definite warning.

He also isn't a fool. He's actually gained a lot of intelligent through the years. As Gold, he's a lawyer as well as owns the practically the whole town of Storybrooke. You don't get to that position without a little bit of smarts about you.

He's also a man who doesn't let others close to him. It's because of that cowardice and that need to hold on to what power he has that he keeps people locked out. His son tried to save him from his curse by taking him to the real world only to be sent alone because Rumpelstiltskin can't let himself be powerless again. Belle tried to save him with true love's kiss and while it very nearly worked, he cast her out.

You can see him, slowly, start to change for the better as Mr. Gold, but he is a long way from correcting all his flaws. He does try in some ways though and he does genuinely care for those who have managed to get close to him and it's clear he also has a soft spot for children as well. Overall though, he still tries to stay as uninvolved as he can, only aiding others when it suits him or when they have something to offer him in return.

Some clear differences between Mr. Gold and Rumpelstiltskin are their mannerisms. Mr. Gold is subdued, a less flamboyant version of himself that can fit easily into the real world while Rumpelstiltskin is all bout theatrics. He is impish and animated, funny and never above giggling or making a joke when the mood strikes. That's not to say he isn't ever serious -- he is. He can be deadly serious and he can have a temper that can put fear into anyone.

Underneath all of this though is a man who has had his share of sadness, some he brought on himself and some that was just shoved on him by his place in life. He is a man who wants to correct what he now sees were mistakes, but that doesn't mean he is ready to leave himself powerless. He is still cowardly like that, clinging to the only thing that keeps him feeling secure and gives him an advantage over others.
□ Age: Probably 100+ at least, but he appears to be in his early 50s.
□ Gender: Male.
□ Appearance: He has longish-brown hair, a gold tooth, and a bit of a length. He's pretty slender and an average height. He walks with a slight limp and carries a cane. He's always in suits, never really seen wearing anything else.
□ Abilities/Powers: His power comes from a special dagger that has his name on it. Should anyone get it, it's the only thing that could kill him or have any real sway over him. He can make spells for many things -- but like a deal with the devil, magic has its price. He will want something in return and beware, the cost might be higher than what you want to give. Besides that, he has immortality and an inability to be truly hurt.

Here, his powers will be subdued and he will be perfectly human until they gradually come start to come back.
